Hector Raefel Burgos-Torres was found shot to death under what police call "suspicious" circumstances n the area of Lincoln West Apartments in Mountville on Sunday, Jan. 8— two days after his 35 birthday, according to his obituary.
Around 4 a.m. West Hempfield Township police had been called to the apartment complex "for a burglary in progress," when they discovered the man's body, the police announced on Monday, Jan. 9.
Torres was found with numerous gunshot wounds, according to the updated release. His death has been ruled a homicide according to the coroner's department.
The police have interviewed all involved parties and the investigation is ongoing.
This is considered an isolated incident, with no threat to the community, according to the police.
Anyone with information on this deadly shooting is asked to contact the police at 717-285-5191, or the District Attorney's Office Detective Bureau, which can be reached through Lancaster County-Wide Communications at 911.
Torres was born on Jan. 6, 1988 in Guayama, Puerto Rico. He "worked as a laborer in manufacturing plants for the past several years. He enjoyed working on cars and going fishing. He enjoyed basketball, boxing and cooking," as stated in his obituary.
He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Nohely Burgos; daughter, Arianie Chanelle Burgos; mother, Milagros Torres Cruz; step father, Manolin Camecho Santiago, both of Columbia; brothers, Hector Manuel Burgos Torres, Jose Alberto Camecho Torres and Victor Manuel Camecho Torres, all of Columbia; sisters, Frances Janet Camecho Torres, Sol Marie Camecho Torres, both of Columbia and Maria Del Carmen Ortiz of Puerto Rico; as well as five "other siblings and many nieces and nephew," according to his obituary.
His family and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Melanie B. Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, 317 East Orange Street, Lancaster, followed by his funeral service with his uncle Pastor Nelson Burgos officiating. His interment will be held in the Mellinger's Mennonite Cemetery.
Torres's community has been sharing about its loss on social and a GoFundMe Campaign page has been created to help cover the cost of his funeral.
